Theme: Building Sustainable and Resilient Client Centred Health Informatics Systems for Health Equity in Africa

The 2025 Pan-African Health Informatics scientific conference (HELINA) is scheduled from the 26^th – 28^th of August 2025 at the University of Botswana (UB) conference centre, Gaborone, Botswana. Botswana is known for its political stability, sound governance, robust ICT infrastructure, and perhaps a pioneer in Southern Africa’s adoption of digital health solutions. It is an ideal host for the HELINA 2025 scientific conference. The conference is the premier annual event of the African regional body of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA). It offers a unique platform to explore advancements in health informatics, focusing on how digital health can enhance healthcare delivery in Africa. 

The co-hosts of the conference are the Health Informatics Association of Botswana (HIASWANA), the University of Botswana eHealth Research Unit bringing together the Computer Science Department, UB Faculty of Health Sciences as well as the UB Faculty of Medicine, the Botswana Health Information Management Association (BoHIMA), and the Ministry of Health in Botswana.

The organizers of HELINA 2025 thus welcome original presentations in the following sub-themes:

Submission Guidelines

All papers must be original and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or conference. The following paper categories are welcome:

• Paper submission
  • For full research papers, select HELINA 2025- Full Research Papers under the SECTION drop-down when submitting and
  • Select HELINA 2025– Work in Progress under the SECTION drop-down when submitting work-in-progress papers.
  • When submitting case studies and experience papers, select HELINA 2025– Case Studies & Experience under the SECTION drop-down.

• Posters submission

  • Poster submission must include title, author names and affiliations. The Poster Program Committee will review all poster submissions, and the Best Poster Award will be awarded based on voting by conference attendees.
